As many of you know, ODP is developing a Futures Planning Process. The theme is "Today's Vision--Tomorrow's Reality... think of the possibilities." I listened to Deputy Secretary Fred Lokuta speak about this process at both PCPA and PAR meetings in the last couple of months. The purpose of the process is to develop long term goals for ODP and action steps to acheive those goals. The plan is expected to be complete by late summer or early fall 2013.
ODP issued nomination forms for interested stakeholders who would like to participate in the "Extended Team" of this process, which were due on February 15, 2013. I nominated myself for this team, and I also received nominations from a few others, but I was not selected. Click here to read the letter that I received on March 12, 2013.
There were over 250 nominations, so I was glad to hear that there was significant interest. I expect that both PAR and PCPA will have representatives on the team, and I will do my best to stay in close touch with what is going on. We expect that there will be opportunities for input from ALL, and I encourage you to respond to these inquiries when you can.
I will be establishing a page on my website for "ODP Futures Planning", to keep you informed over the next several months. This will likely result in significant changes, including all aspects of ODP, services, funding, regulations, etc. As Deputy Secretary Lokuta said, "Everything is on the table." It is critical for you to stay informed and participate in this process as much as is permitted.
Please feel welcome to contact me anytime if you have any questions.
